Guidelines for Success
1.
Incorporate the Circle of Champions Assignment in Your Courses Having a Circle of Champions who provide support and encouragement throughout the student's journey is directly correlated to student success--this is undisputed in education literature. But students typically will not deliberately build this support into their lives. This is why the assignment in your courses is so important. Students--especially first generation students--need to be enticed or encouraged to develop a personal Circle of Champions. To help facilitate this in your courses, we have developed a recommended Circle of Champions assignment. It can be assigned as a mandatory assignment or extra credit work. Regardless, participating faculty need to offer the assignment for significant credit to encourage student participation. The downloadable assignment and corresponding details can be found under the "Faculty" pages at www.myCircleofChampions.com. It should be introduced to students in week one or two of the term as it will require several weeks of work.
2.
Encourage Student Progress on the Assignment Throughout the term, and especially early in the term, students need to be encouraged to start and persevere with developing their personal Circle of Champions. It will help them succeed in your courses and throughout their academic journey. You can monitor each of your students as they move through the process two ways. First, you can login to "My Students" to see their progress. Second, you can ask the Coach on your campus to send you a report containing your students' progress. The Coach assigned at your campus can be found on the Help page at myCircleofChampions.com. If you need help with the "My Students" tool, we have a range of resources that can assist you at the Help page of myCircleofChampions.com.
3.
Assign Grade/Credit for Completion of Assignment You do not have to assess/grade this project (unless you customize it and add additional requirements). We will track, quantify and report student work associated with the assignment. At the end of the term, we will send you a summary of each student's engagement in the assignment. You can use this report to assign a grade or point value for each student.
4.
Develop and Maintain "My Profile" We need you to complete a short profile to help us administer your assignment effectively. This will include basic information like, your name, contact information, courses with the assignment, date you would like the final report, etc. If you need help with the "My Profile" tool, we have a range of resources that can assist you at the Help page of myCircleofChampions.com.
5.
Participate as a Champion (Optional) It is possible, even likely that you will be nominated to be a Champion for some of your students. This assignment does not require or expect you to serve in this capacity. It is available to you if you choose to do so. We recommend that you let your students know or your intentions in this regard with the introduction of the assignment. If you choose to be a Champion to some of your students, you will be expected to fulfill all the duties required of a Champion. These duties and responsibilities are discussed in the Champion section at myCircleofChampions.com
6.
Participate in Circle of Champions Research Ongoing development of the Circle of Champions Network is critical for establishing equity across higher education. With this in mind, we are partnering with UCLA and University of Pennsylvania to conduct an ongoing assessment of the Network, how it impacts student success and what needs to be developed to optimize the impact on marginalized students. As part of the research process, you may be asked to answer survey questions, participate in interviews, or similar activities. Also, the research includes assessment of communications and activity across the Circle of Champions Network. Your participation in this effort will help improve your experience and the experience of future students.
7.
Receive Help To make integration of this assignment as hassle free as possible, we provide a range of help resources. You can contact your Coach, find key individuals at your College involved with the Circle of Champions, read responses to frequently asked questions (FAQs), watch informational videos, and chat with our virtual assistants 24/7. You will find these resources peppered throughout myCircleofChampions.com. The central location for all help resources can be found on the Help page at myCircleofChampions.com.
