Champion Advice : How Champions Help Students Stay Supported

Champions play an important role in a student’s journey, but support looks different for every student. Each month, we share reminders and practices to help Champions support their students in ways that are thoughtful, respectful, and student centered support.

In this week’s message; Nancy Mora, our Champion Success Coordinator, provided some insightful material for our champions to feel better equipped when supporting their students. These materials focus on Equity, Wellness and Basic Needs Services.

While there may be many resources available on campus, students may forget or feel uncomfortable asking for help or when seeking these services. When students can openly express their experiences, successes, failures and have the opportunity to talk about these with those around them who are dedicated and engaged, they can feel more empowered and grounded in their decision making during crucial moments. A lot of strength and visibility can come from one simple check-in with your student.

As a champion, your continued support and presence in your student’s life can impact your student more than you realize, such as being reminded of these important (and often FREE for students) services.
