Champions play an important role in a student’s journey, but support looks different for every student. Each month, we share reminders and practices to help Champions support their students in ways that are thoughtful, respectful, and student centered support.
This month, Nancy, our Champion Success Coordinator, shared guidance on budgeting and how to approach conversations about money with students. Learning how to manage expenses is an important part of helping students make informed decisions and Champion support can play a key role in building confidence and awareness around financial planning.
In some families, especially those navigating financial stress or first-generation college experiences, conversations about money are not always common. For this activity, consider starting an open and honest conversation with your student about budgeting and expenses. Share ideas about paying for college and other costs, and if you are able to offer financial support, be clear about how much and how often. Clarity helps students plan ahead, reduce uncertainty, and better understand the options available to them as they continue their academic journey.
